Many good-willed citizens gathered yesterday on Ante Starčević Square in Osijek and joined the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors, thus making their contributions to saving human lives.
The 550 citizens of Osijek who responded to the Ana Rukavina Foundation’s appeal to support the Registry gave blood samples for tissue typing, and in that way showed their generous Slavonian hearts and increased the chances of saving someone’s life.
By joining the Registry, every citizen has become a potential bone marrow donor, and with this selfless act the people of Osijek showed their incredible civic solidarity. Bone marrow transplantation can treat patients with acute and chronic forms of leukemia, as well as patients with severely damaged bone marrow, and the cure for these serious diseases can be found in each one of us! Thanks to the citizens of Croatia, the national Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors has so far issued 19 transplants which have saved 19 lives; 11 transplants were for recipients in Croatia and 8 were for recipients abroad.
Visitors could also support the Foundation’s work by purchasing promotional materials, as well as have fun while enjoying the musical performances of TS Tamburaši Slavonske Krvi, TS Ringišpil, TS Kas, TS Pet Tambura, Klapa Frumentum, Stjepan Jaršek Štef and many others.
