At the action to join the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors held today at the School of Dental Medicine University of Zagreb, a total of 94 new potential donors joined the Registry.
At the initiative of and with the help of the president of the Student Union of the School of Dental Medicine, Nives Macukić, as well as the support of the dean, Prof. Hrvoje Brkić, PhD, and the dean’s assistant, Mrs. Lada Prišlić, we held yet another successful action and we would like to take this opportunity to thank them for the excellent organization of the action. We would also like to thank all the young people, the students of dental medicine, who joined the Registry today with the hope that, if necessary, they will help someone suffering from leukemia, lymphoma and other hematological diseases.
Also, tissue typing has been carried out on 592 new blood samples from potential donors of hematopoietic stem cells using the molecular method for HLA loci A, B and DRB1. Until now, 39,109 potential donor samples have undergone HLA tissue typing.
We are grateful to the Government of the Republic of Croatia which has allocated funds in the budget to cover the cost of tissue typing, thereby enabling us to tissue type all of the collected blood samples so that the Croatian Registry is operational and accessible to search for non-related bone marrow and stem cell donors.
