At the action to join the Registry of voluntary bone marrow donors, which was held on August 26th in Split at Prokurative, there were 105 new potential donors of bone marrow and stem cells that gave blood samples to be tissue typed.<\/p>\n
This was the fifth action that was held in the City of Split, and 200 volunteers participated in the part of the multi-day event that was organized by the Association of Secondary Schools in Split and the European Youth Parliament of the City of Split under the name \u201cWhen little hands get together, there is no stopping Split\u201d.
\nOn the same day, the representatives of the Foundation were greeted by the deputy prefect of Split-Dalmatia County, Visko Haladi\u0107. After of the reception at the county, the Foundation\u2019s representatives were greeted by the deputy mayor, An\u0111elka Viskovi\u0107. The founder of the Foundation, Marija Rukavina, gave a thank you letter to the deputy mayor and the deputy prefect of the county on behalf of the Foundation.<\/p>\n
Mr. Haladi\u0107 and Mrs. Viskovi\u0107 took part in the action to join the Registry which was held from 5 PM to 9 PM at Prokurative. They also donated blood to be tissue typed. \u201cIn this way, we want to set a positive example for our citizens to also take part in this worthy cause,\u201d said Viskovi\u0107.
\nOn the last day of the action \u201cWhen little hands get together, there is no stopping Split\u201d a humanitarian concert took place which featured a number of singers and youth groups from Split. The action was also attended by members of the County, the City of Split, Solin, Ka\u0161tela, Trogir, as well as the mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandi\u0107, who said, \u201cI will always take part in the Foundation\u2019s actions because I admire Mrs. Rukavina\u2019s dedication, iron willpower and diamond discipline. She lost the dearest person to her, but she hasn\u2019t lost her hope and faith.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the concert, the medical director of the Foundation and the head of the Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors, Dr. Mirando Mrsi\u0107, made an announcement informing us all of more great and happy news \u2013 another bone marrow donor from Croatia was sent to England to save the life of a patient suffering from leukemia. Ana\u2019s dream and promise which was made in the last days of her life is thus coming true, just as she had imagined. The Croatian Registry now lists 32,761 donors, of which 12,575 blood samples have been tissue typed. The news that a Croatian donor has saved yet another life has given us great motivation to continue with our activities with even greater effort, especially in terms of tissue typing all of the collected blood samples so that the Registry will become even more operational and offer a greater chance of saving lives.<\/p>\n
