For the first time since the existence of the Croatian Registry, the Ana Rukavina Foundation and the Clinical Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Transplantation Biology of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb have matched data on the number of registered and typed potential donors in the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry due to age and medical reasons.
We would like to inform you that the age of voluntary donors has changed and the upper limit of the age of active status in the World Marrow Donor Association, of which the Croatian Registry is a member, is now 60 years. The number of registered potential donors, 65,239, as of 31 December 2020, decreased by 5,504. During January and February, a total of 1,010 potential donors were registered, and the new situation as of February 28, 2021, is 60,745 registered potential donors. The number of typed potential donors, 63,524, as of 31 December 2020 decreased by 3,789. During January and February, 598 blood samples from potential donors were typed, and the new situation as of 28 February 2021 was 60,333 typed potential donors.
