HDZ donates 50,000 kuna to the Ana Rukavina Foundation
For the last five years, HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union) has traditionally made a humanitarian donation to the Ana Rukavina Foundation instead of spending money on a lavish New Year’s party!

By calling the hotline number 060 9000 during the great humanitarian concert, citizens donated 537,516 kuna, which will enable us to have 495 new blood samples tissue typed and entered into the Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors. The traditional humanitarian Christmas concert “I want life” was held for the fifth year in a row and thus heralded in the fifth anniversary of the work of the Ana Rukavina Foundation in 2011.

The great humanitarian concert “I want life” will be held on Jelačić Square on December 21st at 8 PM. The Foundation organizes this concert to thank all those who have helped and supported the Foundation’s work in the last year.

The Croatian Journalists’ Association has celebrated its 100 year anniversary, and to mark the celebration of this occasion the Croatian Post Office printed commemorative stamps. The Croatian Journalist’s Association encouraged the Croatian Post Office to donate 5,000 stamps to the Ana Rukavina Foundation.

The company C&A, a world renown fashion house, has made a donation worth 8,500 kuna to support the years of effort made by the Ana Rukavina Foundation in order to save as many leukemia sufferers as possible. The entire amount of the donation will be used toward expanding the Registry of voluntary bone marrow donors and to HLA tissue type the collected blood samples, both of which increase the patients’ chances of finding a bone marrow donor.

For the fifth year in a row, the Ana Rukavina Foundation will organize the traditional humanitarian Christmas concert “I want life” on Ban Jelačić Square. The students of the Medical School and the Student Union of the University of Zagreb will also organize an action for people to join the Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors. On the day of the concert, December 21, 2010, between 12 PM and 4:30 PM, all citizens between the ages of 18 and 50 are invited to come in front of the advent stage to donate blood samples and become potential saviors of someone’s life.

For the fifth year in a row, the Ana Rukavina Foundation has organized their traditional humanitarian Christmas concert on Ban Jelačić Square, which will start at 8 PM on December 21st. The concert is to thank all the benevolent people who since the very beginning of the Foundation’s work have unselfishly helped its work and mission in order to offer the hope of life to those fighting against hematological diseases.

17,314 HLA tissue typed blood samples from voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors in Croatia have been added to the world registry – Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide.
>>1,000 new blood samples from potential stem cell donors have been tissue typed
In the period between November 3 and December 3, 2010, there were 1,000 new blood samples from potential stem cell donors tissue typed using the DNA typing method for HLA A, B and DRB1 (HLA – Human leukocyte antigen). The total number of samples that have been HLA tissue typed is now 19,275.
