Dear friends, a total of 169 citizens joined the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors at yesterday’s action held in Pakrac. On Pakrac’s Trg Dr. Franje Tuđmana, we were joined by 136 citizens, while at the Special Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation a total of 33 employees joined the Registry.
We are sincerely grateful to the Palliative Care Team “LiPa” and Mrs. Ljerka Pavković for inviting us to Pakrac and helping us organize the action. We would also like to thank the students and teachers of the Secondary Medical School in Pakrac for their help and kindness.
We are also grateful to all the citizens of Pakrac who by joining the Registry are helping in the search for a compatible bone marrow donor for sick young Dora and all those patients who are in need of bone marrow transplantations.
We have even better news for you. Another 1,000 blood samples from potential hematopoietic stem cell donors have been tissue typed using the molecular method for four HLA loci: A, B, C and DRB1. This has brought the number of tissue typed samples of potential donors to 42,259.
As always, we are grateful to both the current and previous Government of the Republic of Croatia which has allocated funds in the budget to enable us to get closer to our goal, which is tissue typing all of the collected blood samples so that the Croatian Registry is operational and accessible to search for non-related bone marrow and stem cell donors.
We are sincerely grateful to all of you who have decided to help all those in need of stem cell transplantation by joining the Registry, as well as the organizers of our actions who have made the effort to organize activities throughout Croatia.
