Starting from the main square, for the 19th time, marathoners began the 42 kilometer-long race along the streets of Zagreb. Among the participants was Zagreb’s mayor, Milan Bandić, as well as ten or so marathoners who ran in the name of the Ana Rukavina Foundation.
The starting shot to begin the 19th Večernji List Zagreb Marathon was fired by Sandra Perković, the European champion in discus throw. At the traditional Štrukli Party held the night before the marathon on Ban Jelačić Square, Mayor Bandić had given her an award for her achievements. Lisa Stublić, the European record holder in marathon, had also received an award.
As always, the Večernji List Marathon was organized for three groups of runners. They could participate in the five kilometer citizens’ race, the 21 kilometer half marathon or the 42 kilometer marathon.
