A great number of good-willed citizens gathered on Zadar’s main street Kalelarga last Saturday in order to join the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors, thus making their contribution to the saving of human lives.
The 226 citizens of Zadar who participated in the action to join the Registry, which was organized by the Ana Rukavina Foundation, gave blood samples for tissue typing, thereby increasing the chances of saving someone’s life.
By joining the Registry, every citizen can become a potential bone marrow donor, and with this selfless act the people of Zadar showed their incredible civic solidarity. Bone marrow transplantation can treat patients with acute and chronic forms of leukemia, as well as patients with severely damaged bone marrow, and the cure for these serious diseases can be found in each one of us! Thanks to the citizens of Croatia, the national Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors has so far issued 19 transplants which have saved 19 lives.
Visitors were able to support the work of the Foundation by purchasing promotional materials, while also enjoying the musical performances of Bepo Matešić, Mihovil Mazija, Tea Vidić, Klapa Donat, Klapa Barufa, Klapa Bibinje, Klapa Vir, and the Vladimir Nazor High School Ensemble.
During the summer months, the Ana Rukavina Foundation will visit Osijek, Dubrovnik and Pula. We invite all citizens to participate in the actions to join the Registry so that we can join forces to create a society in which selflessly helping other human beings is an everyday occurrence.
