700 new blood samples of potential bone marrow donors have been tissue typed

In the period between June 15th and July 15th 2009, 700 new blood samples of potential bone marrow and stem cell donors were tissue typed.

Out of the 700 newly tissue typed blood samples, 601 blood samples were from non-related bone marrow donors, while 99 were from cord blood donated at the Public Cord Blood Bank Ana Rukavina. After cord blood (blood from the umbilical cord) is tissue typed it may be used immediately in stem cell transplantations.

The Croatian Registry now numbers 12,102 tissue typed samples that are available to search for HLA non-related bone marrow and stem cell donors.
