With a magical performance by Jelena Radan led by British maestro Jonathan Griffith and accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, many visitors to the Concert for Life organized by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday, May 20, we remembered Ana Rukavina and maestro Vjekoslav Šutej at the eleventh Concert for Life.
The concert was held under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Mr. Zoran Milanović.
“Two difficult years are behind all of us during which, unfortunately, we did not hold the Concert for Life. After a two-year break, we happily celebrated life with the beautiful Jelena Radan through Fado & Voyage. Our Ana adored Jelena and fado and thus this concert grew even closer to our hearts. A big thank you to the director of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Mr. Mirko Boch, who continued the tradition started by maestro Vjekoslav Šutej. Although sad because they are no longer with us, we are happy to have been able to remember Ana and maestro Šutej in this wonderful musical evening. Part of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Ana Rukavina Foundation by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, which will be used to further expand the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry and professional training for young doctors in the field of hematology and other related specializations. In this way, we want to increase the chances of life of the seriously ill and provide them with the best possible care by providing additional training for young doctors at some of the world’s best health care institutions,” said Ms. Marija Rukavina, director of the Ana Rukavina Foundation.
Envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Jadranka Žarković, Envoy of the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Ms. Mirela Šentija Knežević, Envoy of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, MD Tomislav Dulibić, Envoy of the President of the Croatian Parliament, Mr. Krunoslav Katičić, President of the City Assembly of Zagreb, Joško Klisović and many other distinguished guests and dear friends of the Foundation who have contributed to its work and helped save lives for more than 15 years also enjoyed a full musical evening during which visitors could enjoy a unique musical journey accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra.
The eleventh Concert for Life, as well as numerous other actions of the Ana Rukavina Foundation, enabled 150 transplants from the Croatian Registry for patients in Croatia and abroad, which gave patients and their families new hope and opportunity for life. From the 150 citizens who were registered at the beginning of the Foundation’s work, today that number has increased to 61,970 potential donors of hematopoietic stem cells.
