At the action held on Monday, September 19 in Koprivnica at the City Red Cross Koprivnica, 34 new potential donors joined the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry.
The Ana Rukavina Foundation held this event to register in the Croatian Registry to help young Sara, who suffers from a rare autoimmune disease, find a matching donor, but also to all sick people who are waiting for their matching donor.
We would like to thank the co-organizers of the action, the City Red Cross Society Koprivnica and the Association of Volunteers of Podravka – PULS, and the Health Center of Koprivnica-Križevačka County, which allowed us the participation of medical staff who helped in informing and taking samples of potential donors.
We also received a report from the Clinical Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Transplantation Biology of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb on new HLA typed samples. In July, 120 new samples of potential donors were typed.
The samples were typed on three loci: HLA-A, HLA-B and HLA-DRB1, and now the number of typed potential donors is 62,183.
A big thank you to the dear people who decided to join the Croatian Registry to help unknown people who are waiting for their matching donor. With your decision, you are giving hope for life to patients around the world.
