During the Foundation’s 206th and 207th consecutive actions, which were held last Saturday in Belišće and Otok, the names of a total of 150 new potential donors were entered in the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors; 85 in Belišće and 65 in Otok.
During the donor recruitment drive, which was organized by the Ana Rukavina Foundation with the help of the HDSSB (the Croatian Democratic Union of Slavonia and Baranja), as well as the municipal organization of the SDP (Party of Democratic Rights) in Otok, the locals of Belišće and Otok gave their blood samples for tissue typing and thus increased the chances of saving lives.
With this noble act the locals of Belišće and Otok demonstrate an exceptional sense of civic solidarity because bone marrow transplantation can treat patients suffering from acute and chronic forms of leukemia, as well as patients with severely damaged bone marrow. By having their name listed in the Registry, every citizen becomes a potential bone marrow donor because the cure for those serious diseases is in us!
