Dear friends, on Thursday, June 4, 2020, from 2 to 5 pm in the school hall of the Lijepa naša Elementary School in Tuhelj, an action of enrollment in the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry will be held.
This action is carried out on the initiative of the elementary school Lijepa naša, the Municipality of Tuhelj, and the Society „Our Children“ Tuhelj in cooperation with the Ana Rukavina Foundation to help sick people in search of a matching donor.
The action was prompted by the case of a little girl Lucija (8 years old), a student at the Lijepa naša primary school, who has leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant.
A blood sample for entry in the Croatian Registry can NOT be given only for Lucija, but by entering the Croatian Registry you make yourself available to sick people all over the world.
All healthy citizens from 18 to 40 years of age can give a blood sample to join the Croatian Registry. The enrollment process includes completing an application form and a health questionnaire and providing a blood sample for HLA typing to determine tissue tolerance antigens. Enrollment in the Croatian Registry is the first step that needs to be completed to help those with severe and chronic leukemia and patients with severe bone marrow damage around the world.
When enrolling, and according to the instructions of the Croatian Institute of Public Health, we appeal to citizens to keep a distance of 1.5 to 2 meters, to use disinfectants that we will provide at the entrance to the room where they will be entered in the Croatian Registry and that if they have any symptoms such as respiratory problems/infections, fever, etc. to miss this action for the safety of everyone else. Information on where, apart from this action, they can enroll in one of the 8 transfusion centers in the Republic of Croatia can be found at the following link.
