Dear friends, the next action to join the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors, as well as the last action before a short summer break, will be held in Zagreb at the 1st Grammar School (Av. Dubrovnik 36) on Thursday, July 10th from 3 PM to 5 PM.
The action is being organized with the help of the family, father Mladen, mother Jelena and sister Iva, of six year old Paula Bičanić, who is receiving treatment for leukemia. In addition, much help in terms of the organization is coming from Paula’s school, the 1st Grammar School, as well from volunteers and friends of the family. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of them for their effort and desire to make this action as well organized as possible.
Paula’s further treatment includes a bone marrow transplant and the search for a matching non-related donor is currently underway.
This is where you come in, dear friends! Come, join the Registry and increase the chances of treating all those suffering from leukemia, lymphoma and severely damaged bone marrow, including brave young Paula, of course.
For all of you who cannot participate in this action to join the Registry, we would like to remind you that you can join the Registry at the Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb (Rebro), Department of Tissue Typing (green building, basement, room 9), every working day from 8 AM to 2 PM, as well as at the transfusion centers in the 8 cities.
All healthy people between the ages of 18 and 40 can join the Registry by filling in an application form and a medical questionnaire and giving a blood sample for HLA tissue typing (the procedure for determining the tissue compatibility antigen). Those who have already been listed as potential donors do not need to join again.
We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible!
