Synchronizing the number of registered and typed potential donors

One of the most difficult moments in our work is the regular synchronization of data with the Clinical Department of Transfusion Medicine and Transplantation Biology of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb and the World Marrow Donor Registry (WMDA). Since the end of 2006, 504 registration campaigns for the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry have been held throughout the Republic of Croatia; rain or shine, snow or wind, in all weather conditions, the Ana Rukavina Foundation team has traveled and held registration campaigns for the Croatian Registry. We have collaborated with the army, churches, police, firefighters, universities, secondary and primary schools, kindergartens, political parties, sports clubs and associations, NGOs…
The moment when we have to delete the data of some of the registered donors who were removed from the Croatian Registry due to age and medical reasons is challenging for us. What comforts us is that 185 patients from Croatia and around the world have been given a chance at life thanks to donors from the Croatian Registry and that our love and effort, as well as the efforts of all the organizers of the campaigns throughout Croatia, were not in vain. If there were no need to remove potential donors due to age and medical reasons, today the Croatian Registry would have close to 100,000 potential donors thanks to the efforts of all of us (organizers of the campaigns, people who joined us, 8 transfusion centers that have been collecting samples continuously since 2013) since the beginning of the Ana Rukavina Foundation.
Below we bring you the new figures.
The Ana Rukavina Foundation and the Clinical Department of Transfusion Medicine and Transplantation Biology of the University Hospital Centre Zagreb have synchronized the data on the number of registered and typed potential donors in the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry due to age and medical reasons.

The number of typed potential donors as of December 31, 2024, is 65,391, decreasing by 1,679, and the new status as of January 1, 2025, is 63,712 typed potential donors.
