Tenth donation of stem cells from the Croatian Registry to save a boy from Sweden

Dean Ćakić, a journalist and the graphic editor of Labinština.info, has donated hematopoietic stem cells to a boy from Sweden!

Mr. Dean Ćakić was entered in the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors on October 20, 2007. The action in Labin was especially emotional because it was organized by Mrs. Olgica Škopac, the mother of the late Sandro Škopac who lost the battle with leukemia but had left a lot of good in the people around him. Sandro’s family, many citizens of Labin as well as his friends from the fire department, the Red Cross Association of the City of Labin, the League against Cancer, and the entire team of the Rudar Soccer Club, made this action unforgettable with their good moods and happiness. At that time, 278 people from Labin were entered into the Registry and donated blood for tissue typing. On that October 20, 2007 all of Labin was with us. In statistical terms, this is the city with the highest relative number of donors who have been entered in the Registry and donated blood for tissue typing.

We are especially happy for Sandro and his family that the tenth donator of hematopoietic stem cells comes from Labin. We hope that the severely ill boy from Sweden will be able to accept the transplant of stem cells from the courageous and humane donor from Labin, Mr. Dean Ćakić, who in this way we would like to thank for his donation.
