The number of HLA tissue typed donor blood samples has gone up by 400.
Taking into consideration that only HLA tissue typed samples can be listed in the database of the Registry that is available to search for antigen tissue tolerance and tissue compatibility with patients who are waiting for bone marrow and stem cell transplantations, we are grateful to all the citizens and companies who have helped us by making donations so that this year we could tissue type 1000 samples. We are also grateful to the Government of the Republic of Croatia and Minister Milinović for allocating funds in 2010 in the amount of 4.5 million kuna in order to fulfill this goal, starting with the tissue typing of these 400 new blood samples.
Out of the 33,000 recorded donors, 14,475 blood samples have been tissue typed until now. In order for all of the potential donors to be entered into the database of the Registry, we still have 18,525 blood samples that need to undergo HLA tissue typing.
We would like to thank all those dear people who have donated their stem cells and given the hope of recovery to those suffering from malignant diseases. Thank you to all the potential donors who are ready to do the same if they are found to be a match with any of the patients. Of course, we would also like to thank all the donors who have financially contributed to help expand the Registry.
