The Annual Meeting of the European Organization for Rare Diseases – Eurordis, took place in Athens from May 7 – 9, 2009, under the slogan “No policy without patients!”.
The event was attended by 87 representatives from association members of European organizations for rare diseases, including the Croatian Society of Patients with Rare Diseases. The main idea of the meeting was to involve patients in the process of making decisions that will affect their futures. Eurordis is the main European organization for patients with rare diseases and it represents more than 25 million patients.
The representative of the Croatian Society of Patients with Rare Diseases and the representatives of the Ana Rukavina Foundation were especially proud due to the fact that Dr. Mirando Mrsić, PhD, a member of the board of the Croatian Society of Patients with Rare Diseases, the medical director of the Ana Rukavina Foundation, and a member of parliament, was chosen by secret ballot among six other candidates for a three year mandate as a member of the Management Board of the Eurordis General Assembly.
The second piece of good news coming from Athens was that Croatia, with the support of Eurordis and the Institution of the European Union, will have the honor of hosting foreign experts at the 2010 National Conference on Rare Diseases that will be held within the framework of the project EuroPlan.
Eurordis has made great contributions in the area of protecting the rights of patients that are suffering from rare diseases. The support this organization offers to member associations in Europe and on a national level is of exceptional importance to the continued development and advancement in achieving our mutual goals.
