Concert for Life, March 31, 2010, Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall

Humanitarian concert in memory of the premature deaths of two amazing people!

The Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ana Rukavina Foundation have organized the “Concert for Life”, a charity event in memory of Ana Rukavina and maestro Vjekoslav Šutej. The concert will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 8 PM in Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall in Zagreb.

The concert will be held under the high auspices of the President of the Republic, Ivo Josipović, who will be in attendance, and it will also be sponsored by the City of Zagreb. The program of the concert will feature Giuseppe Verdi’s “Requiem”. Tickets cost 80 and 100 kuna, and all of the proceeds will be donated to the Foundation.

The concert will be directed by maestro Ivan Repušić. The following soloists will perform with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra: Adela Golac Rilović, soprano,  Martina Gojčeta-Silić, mezzo-soprano, Zoran Todorovich, tenor, Giorgio Surjan, bass, as well as the Academic Choir Ivan Goran Kovačić, the Opera Choir of the Croatian National Theater Zagreb and the Choir of the Zagreb Music Academy.

The cooperation between the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ana Rukavina Foundation began when maestro Šutej, who was being treated in the United States at the time, announced that he would support the work of the Foundation with his performances. Unfortunately, the respected director is no longer with us, but his and Ana’s name will once again bring us together for a great humanitarian concert to help expand the Croatian Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors.
“This concert is a gift to all the people who have in any way contributed to support the work of the Foundation and in that way have shown their generosity and kindness. I believe that the public will once again join us and together we will help all those people who are fighting against leukemia and give them hope for life,” said Marija Rukavina, Director of the Foundation.

With the letter “I want life” Ana touched the Croatian public which showed that by pooling our strength we can fight to help all those in need. After her death, the fight to help all those suffering from leukemia continued with the work of the Foundation whose aim is to expand the Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors.
