At the action held on February 19 in Zagreb at the Tituš Brezovački Primary School, a total of 77 citizens joined the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors.
We organized the action with the help of the school’s psychologist, Prof. Silva Strnad-Jerbić, at the initiative of the student Luka who suffers from a malignant hematological disease. With this action, Luka, who recently had a bone marrow transplant, wanted to inspire all of the citizens and parents of school children to join the Registry and therefore become potential savior of someone’s life.
The action to join the Registry was held as part of a humanitarian school event at which Croatian athletes Gordan Kožulj, Ratko Štritof, Tomislav Šain, Petra Ćaćić, Dajana Zoretić and Nataša Kolić presented water sports to the kids and parents and invited all healthy citizens between 18 and 40 years of age to join the Registry.
By donating blood the 77 citizens of Zagreb became part of the mission promoted by the Ana Rukavina Foundation which constantly expands the Registry and continues to save those who are suffering around the world. The motto of each of the 238 public actions to join the Registry has been “the cure is in us”. With this motto the Foundation would like to remind citizens that each of us carries the “cure” with which we can offer the hope of saving the lives of those suffering in Croatia and abroad.
We are sincerely grateful to the Tituš Brezovački Primary School, the school’s psychologist Prof. Silva Strnad-Jerbić, head master Prof. Željko Vidmar, all the teachers, the students who created a beautiful message for all those who joined the Registry, all those who joined the Registry and, of course, a special thanks to Luka, whose wish brought us there and to whom we wish the best of luck in his future treatment. We are looking forward to seeing him at next year’s school event!
