Action to join the Registry at Bukovac Primary School in Zagreb

The next action to join the Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors will take place on Saturday, May 24th, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Bukovac Primary School. This is being held at the initiative of the headmistress, Mrs. Mirjana Boras.

The school decided to organize this action because of the great wish of Luka Mihalić, a student at the Tituš Brezovački Primary School in Zagreb (where we also held an action at Luka’s request on March 19th of this year). Luka has been struggling with leukemia for two years already and his great wish is: “to call and ask all of our parents and friends to join the Registry and give a blood sample for tissue typing so that maybe they could one day help someone who is severely ill”.

We decided to hold this noble action initiated by the Bukovac Primary School primarily because of the brave young Luka. This will coincide with another praiseworthy activity: for the second consecutive year, students and teachers will join forces in an action to plant and decorate their schoolyard, at the initiative and with the great help of the Parent’s Council.

All healthy people between the ages of 18 and 40 can join the Registry and by doing so can contribute to saving the lives of those who are suffering from acute and chronic forms of leukemia, as well as patients with severely damaged bone marrow. The process to join the Registry includes filling in an application form and a medical questionnaire and giving a blood sample for HLA tissue typing which is the procedure for determining the tissue compatibility antigen.

We hope to see as many of you as possible on Saturday!
