In Šibenik-Knin County, the HDZ Women’s Association “Katarina Zrinski” has initiated the design of a park in honor of the late journalist Ana Rukavina.
“The park is to be arranged at the north entrance of St. Mihovil Fort and the works will be financed by sponsors. In this way, the Women’s Association “Katarina Zrinski” would like to voice their concerns about the growing rate of violence among teenagers and would like to offer them a place for socializing and other activities of their choice,” announced the president of the Women’s Association “Katarina Zrinski” and the mayor of Šibenik, Mrs. Nedeljka Klarić.

On November 26th, on the occasion of the anniversary of Ana Rukavina’s death, in the presence of Ana’s mother and the director of the Foundation, Mrs. Marija Rukavina, the representatives of the Association presented a preliminary idea for the design of the future park. The project should be completed and the park ceremonially opened on the anniversary of Ana’s birthday, March 28, 2009.

With the help of a group of HDZ councilmen, the Association will also submit a request to the City Council to officially name the location “Ana Rukavina Park”.

Šibenik – Saint Mihovil Fort:

Saint Mihovil Fort is the oldest part of the city of Šibenik (since 1835 because of St. Ana Chapel at the cemetery and St. Ana Fort). It is located on top of a hill, 70 meters above the sea in the center of Šibenik. From this position it dominates the entire bay of Šibenik and the city’s close surroundings. The first time the fort, as well as the city of Šibenik, was mentioned in history was in a certificate issued by the Croatian king, Petar Krešimir IV, on December 25, 1066, to a Zadar nun, Čika, entitling her to monastery land and assets. The architectural development of the fort was directly influenced by the development of the city of Šibenik at the bottom of its slopes, except for the north-east side where there was no urbanization.
