Announcing the 175th action to join the Registry

The 175th action to join the Croatian Registry of voluntary hematopoietic stem cell donors will be held in the REFORMA Fitness Center located at Radnička 1a in Zagreb! It will take place on November 5, 2011 from 11 AM to 1 PM.

The organizers of this action are Darija Šćukanec and Vazmenko Pervan, the owner of the Reforma Fitness Center. This action is open to all citizens.

IMPORTANT: All healthy people between 18-40 years old are able to join the Registry. In order to do this you are required to fill in a form and answer some questions regarding your health, as well as give a blood sample for HLA tissue typing (a procedure for determining the tissue compatibility antigen). After HLA tissue typing is carried out, the donor is entered by a code number into the data base of the Croatian and World Registries. If a patient is found to have the same tissue compatibility antigen, you will be contacted by someone at the Registry to undergo further procedures of donating bone marrow or stem cells.

More information at:

The Croatian Registry lists 33,244 potential donors, and 26,275 donor blood samples have already been HLA tissue typed. The tissue typing of one blood sample costs 1,000 kuna. Therefore, in this way we would like to thank everyone who has helped us raise the financial resources necessary for tissue typing. Until now, Croatian stem cell donors have already saved 13 lives!

Do not forget, THE CURE IS IN US, and someone’s life may be in your hands!
