On the occasion of World Lymphoma Awareness Day, the Ana Rukavina Foundation and the Croatian Leukemia and Lymphoma Association organized a number of activities on Cvjetni Trg in order to raise public awareness of this difficult, and unfortunately, not so uncommon disease. Educational presentations for the citizens, which were held in the Cultural Information Center, were given by some of the most qualified experts in the field of hematology in Croatia: Professor Igor Auer, MD, PhD, from the University Hospital Center Zagreb, and Professor Slobodanka Ostojić, MD, PhD, and Ljiljana Pomper, BSN, from the Merkur University Hospital.

>>Split: 105 new donors join the Registry
At the action to join the Registry of voluntary bone marrow donors, which was held on August 26th in Split at Prokurative, there were 105 new potential donors of bone marrow and stem cells that gave blood samples to be tissue typed.
>>“When little hands get together, there is no stopping Split”
Today in Split, starting at 6 PM, is the action for the Ana Rukavina Foundation “When little hands get together, there is no stopping Split”. It is being organized by the Association of Secondary Schools in Split and the European Youth Parliament of the City of Split.
>>473 new blood samples have been tissue typed!
Since July 15th, HLA (Human leukocyte antigen) tissue typing of loci A, B and DRB1 has been completed on 473 new blood samples of potential bone marrow and stem cell donors.
The National Registry now lists 12,575 donors that are available to search for matches with patients that are in need of bone marrow transplants.
When little hands get together, there is no stopping Split
In Split, from August 22nd – 27th, a six-day event, “When little hands get together, there is no stopping Split” will take place to support the projects of the Ana Rukavina Foundation.

For the first time, stem cells from the Croatian Registry of voluntary bone marrow donors have saved the life of a patient outside of Croatia – in Austria – and in that way has fulfilled the mission of the Ana Rukavina Foundation to make the possibility of having stem cell transplantations available to as many patients as possible, which was pointed out at today’s press conference for journalists and the Foundation in Zagreb.
