Ana Rukavina Foundation organizes the 171st action to join the Croatian Registry of voluntary bone marrow and stem cell donors in Karlovac!

In order to reach the goal of increasing the number of potential bone marrow and stem cell donors, a number of organizers have helped us with our work. This time the organizer of the action is the County Board of the HDZ Women’s Association “Katarina Zrinski” for the county of Karlovac.

The action in KARLOVAC will be held on: Saturday, November 7, 2009, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Trg Matije Gupca

The more donors we have the more chances we have of finding a matching donor and saving someone’s life. Despite the Foundation’s excellent results, money continues to be an obstacle to achieving the optimal results. Tissue typing is a very expensive process and each blood sample costs 1,580 kn to tissue type. As of today, out of the 32,872 blood samples that we have collected, only 12,575 donors have been tissue typed. HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) tissue typing enables us to search for genetic compatibility and tissue tolerance between the donor and the patients who are awaiting bone marrow or stem cell transplants for treatment. Since it is only possible to search for donors in the Registry that have been HLA tissue typed, the goal of these actions is to raise financial resources to tissue type as many blood samples as possible from potential donors. Therefore, we invite you to buy the Foundation’s promotional materials and help our work of expanding the Registry.

You can find more information about donating bone marrow and stem cells on our web pages under the topic “Frequent Questions.”
